Sustainability

At Obtala, we are in a unique position to bring vital positive impact on Africa’s economic transformation, social development and environmental management, through our business operations.

At Obtala, we aim to sustainably consolidate economic development, while helping to increase agricultural productivity through commercial farming and ensure that forests entrusted to us are protected. Our corporate activities have the objective of creating value-add in countries, as we invest in infrastructure and build integrated vertical value chains, which benefits countries in terms of gaining access to international markets.

The communities we operate in are typically quite remote and many are largely subsistence economies. Our continued presence is critical to the local communities, as we generate new jobs and skills development opportunities.

Social Stock Exchange Company of the Year Award

We were proud to see our efforts recognized in 2017 with the award of the Impact Company of the Year title in the sub-$150m capitalisation category by the Social Stock Exchange (SSX). This award represents an endorsement of our business practices and social impact activities, and core belief of our board that the two are inextricably linked.
